Welcome to my blog!

Hi, my name is Conrad and this is my blog! I am a Kiwi/Singaporean boy who lives in Singapore with my parents, a brother and my two sisters. I am football crazy. I read a lot and I love my food. I used to have two blogs – younggunnerblog and cksfood which are food and football blogs, but I have decided to merge them and create one mega blog about my life!

I hope you enjoy! 😃🍲⚽📚

Guzman y Gomez sautéed vegetables burrito

Hi guys, I haven’t written a blog post in a long time and in that time a lot has happened. I have fractured my finger, I had my Burrito #01.JPGbirthday and I HAVE BECOME PESCATARIAN! So firstly I fractured my index finger on my left hand while playing basketball. I turned 11 on the 1st of March and I became pescatarian because I read a few chapters from a book by Jonathan Safran Foer called Eating Animals, which is about animals and the terrible things that people and farmers do to animals before they are sold and eaten. Some of it is really wrong and other stuff is just disgusting to think that we eat meat. I won’t go into the specifics because I don’t want to put any of you guys off meat, but if you are curious you should check it out because it’s a good book. By the way, in case you don’t know, pescatarianism is basically vegetarianism but you eat fish. I eat fish because I probably wouldn’t be able to survive without any sort ofBurrito #02 meat. Anyway, around where I live a new restaurant called Guzman y Gomez, which is a Mexican place, opened and it is soooo good! They have burritos, burrito bowls, nachos, tacos, fajita, enchiladas, quesadillas and salads! This is actually a learning experience for me because before this I had never had Mexican food so I only knew about half of the things on the menu from TV but now I know a lot more. My favourite item on the menu is the little guy burrito with sautéed vegetables! I have the kids’ one because the regular one is huge! I especially like it because on some days there is a lot of mushroom and other days there is a lot of capsicum which is fun because you never know what you’re going to get in it. They always have a lot of cheese which is nice. AND THEY ONLY COST 5$!!! Another cool thing about this place is that they have a small stall where you can get Mexican spicy sauces! They have Roasted My injury picJalapeno which is mild, Smoky Chipotle which is medium, and Habanero which is spicy. I get the mild because the other ones are way, way, way too spicy! The mild is pretty spicy too but it tastes nice, so I just have my burrito with a glass of milk. An interesting thing which I find out is that it is not actually a Mexican place. It’s an Australian place, and Guzman and Gomez aren’t actual people (well, they probably are but . . . you know what I mean). Anyway this place is great in every respect.

I gave them full marks because they really deserve it. The taste as I have mentioned is amazing. It is in Orchard Central which is right in the middle of Singapore and is a really popular mall which is pretty easy to get to. The people there are really friendly and professional, and they have so many options for everyone including vegetarians! Anyway, thank you for reading. I apologise for not posting for such a long time. It’s just that it’s hard to type with one hand. Now that my cast is off I’ll be posting a lot more! I’m going to leave you guys now with a few not-so-random emoji’s which somehow fit in this post!

Turon

IMG-0090
Finished turon

Hi guys, welcome back to another blog post! Today I will be writing about a new food which I have discovered. I will be telling you a bit about it and also the simple recipe. So here is the “history” of the turon. Turons are kind of like Filipino spring rolls but traditionally made with banana, jack fruit and sugar. They are sold on the streets usually with banana cue, camote cue, and maruya. I attempted to make them with my mum, but without jack fruit because we couldn’t find any.

The recipe is amazingly simple! I will show you now. You need bananas (as many as you need), spring roll pastry, brown sugar, butter/oil.

  1. IMG-0082

    1. Pour the brown sugar onto a plate.
    2. Dip bananas into brown sugar then place a piece of banana covered in sugar onto piece of pastry.
    3. Fold two sides of pastry into the middle then fold the bottom up. You then roll it all up into a cylinder shape.
    4. Brush the turon with oil or melted butter.
    5. Sprinkle with sugar.
    6. Bake in oven for 15-20 minutes.
    7. EAT!!!

Ital Diet

What’s up guys? Welcome back to another Conrad’s Food Blog post! Today I will be giving y’all a bonus post, in which I will be explaining what the Ital diet is. So I am doing this because my dad was starting this diet and I was interested in what it involved so today I will be sharing some information with you about it.

IMG-5443
Bob Marley peeling vegetables for an Ital meal.

So the Ital diet is a diet which Rastafarians (some Jamaicans) do because they have some restrictions caused by their beliefs. They are usually vegetarian and eat food which is as natural as possible. That means they avoid processed and chemically modified foods. They are only allowed to eat fish which have scales and are under twelve inches long. They don’t eat most other seafood. Some of them don’t drink coffee or alcohol or smoke cigarettes. Rastafari believe that you can have some alcohol, but not so much that your vision blurs because that means that you are reducing your livity. Livity is kind of like a human’s energy or life source which is given to every human being from Jah (their god).

A picture of Gilly preparing food for Marley.

Arguably the most famous Rastafarian ever – Bob Marley – followed the Ital diet! He had a cook named Gilly who followed him to concerts and cooked Ital food for him. He made many things for Marley, for example Ital stew which is usually made with cauliflower, carrots, potatoes, cabbage, brown gungo peas and butter beans. Gilly also made juices for Bob. One of Marley’s favorites, though, was made of seaweed, condensed milk and cinnamon! Anyway thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed this post! I find Rastafari and the Ital diet really interesting so it was really fun to research this topic. Below are a few not-so-random Emojis which are related to my post in some way. Jah Rastafari!

Hamburg Steak Keisuke

Welcome to another Conrad’s Food Blog post! Today I will be reviewing the kid’s meal untitledfrom Hamburg Keisuke. Keisuke is a Japanese chain which has several chains in Singapore and the cool thing is that the chains each have a specialty. For example, one chain does Ramen, one does lobster, one does hamburgers/steak, etc., and the latter was the one which I went to. So you go in to the place and order your food and then you actually have entitlement to unlimited salad and egg! I had potato salad, pasta and tomato and embarrassingly I had six eggs 😋!!! The meal consisted of rice with furikake on top, hamburger meat, mashed potato, prawn, jelly and Yakult (drink). The second I laid my eyes on it I immediately knew I would like it, but I didn’t expect it to be as good as it was. It was the kid’s meal but was still really, really filling so by the time I had finished I was stuffed. Here are the ratings:

Don’t worry, I haven’t messed up. I just think the taste is beyond good. It was amazing and for so cheap too. I definitely recommend it because (1) the food is awesome, and (2) it is also really easy to find. It is right across the road from the Tanjong Pagar MRT station. Below are a few not-so-random emojis which are related to my post in some way. Thank you for reading!

BTW: I nearly forgot if I don’t post again soon I just wanted to wish all of you guys a Happy Halloween!

Pontian Wanton Noodles

Hello and welcome to another food review on Conrad’s food blog! Today I will be reviewing the Pontian Wanton Noodles! Okay so I’m going to be completely honest, the place – Cuppage Plaza – doesn’t look great, like there was some unidentifiable liquid on the floor. But it turns out that it doesn’t matter at all what IMG-0007the place looks like because it’s not about what it looks like on the outside but how the food tastes. They have a stall at the front of the mall selling banana balls, cakes, etc., which are delicious but the true gem is hidden deeper inside! There is a small shop called Pontian Wanton Noodles and you could just tell by looking at it that it was popular as there were quite a few people there already. I ordered the classic Wanton mee noodles which included Char Siu, Chinese kale, soup and Wanton dumplings! It also came with lime juice which coolly came in jars! OMG the noodles were so good, the dumplings went so well with the rest of the dish, and the sour lime juice just topped it all off brilliantly. Here are the ratings.

Suggestion: If you are in Singapore I recommend this place but even most resident Singaporeans would need guidance or maps to find it.

Chic-A-Boo Mayo Chicken Burger

Hi, and welcome to my first blog post on Conrad’s food blog! Today I will be reviewing the Mayo Chicken Burger from Chic-A-Boo. So there are about four Chick-A-Boo restaurants in Singapore and I went to the IMG-0008one in City Square Mall. I ordered a Mayo Chicken Burger with Onion Rings and Fanta. That in all only cost $8.10 which is nothing for the quality. The burger was huge and for a boy of ten physically impossible to eat but once I’d squashed it a bit it was perfect! The burger was really good and the onion rings were amazing because unlike some other onion rings you could actually taste the onion. (The Fanta was pretty good too – ha!)

Every time I do a post I will have a few criteria that I will rate what I ate by. One star is the worst and five stars is the best.

Thanks for reading I hoped you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed eating the burger (probably not). Anyway I recommend Chic-A-Boo to those of you who like your Chicken but for the vegetarians I don’t recommend it. 😉
